Overnight Inns

My kids and I build these little houses out in the middle of nowhere, so that when we are in survival and it turns into night, we can have a safe haven. Usually, these places have at least a bed, crafting table, chest, and furnace. Sometimes they are just a bed and a chest. It saves everyone the time of blocking themselves in, and they can watch out the window for their enemies and be ready to attack!

Getting funky with snow

I haven't worked with Snow bricks much and wanted to start to build with it. I currently use Redstone Torches to light up the inside. This odd building that is multi-level was built right on the edge of where the snowy biome ends.

Big Red Barn

Recently, I made this large barn I found on Google Images. For some reason, the top part didn't even out, and it makes the front look like a pig face. I think I should add a Pixel Art John Deere!

Teen Titan Tower

Teen Titan Tower

I made the Teen Titan Tower out of snow blocks and diamond blocks. I really like the Teen Titans tower shape. This is a very spacious building, depending how you build it. I built the exterior first, and then worked on the inside. I put a floor in about every fourth block from the base, giving multiple levels. Plenty of room for your treasures!

More Pixel Art fun!

Another Stone and Wood house

It seems that there is an abundance of these style homes. Like no one knows how to build with any other materials. But fir the sake of argument, what fun would it be to build it out of Diamond blocks, and just mine it when you need some diamond? Some materials like clay, leak when it rains. Some materials like Wool or Coal can catch on fire. Cobblestone and Woods seem easiest to collect in survival mode. So, here is a look at another house I built. I did find a similar design on Pinterest, but I did not follow that photo well.

The Front of the house looks pretty simple here. I did not add any yard decorations such as grass, trees, and such until afterward (not shown). This particular build is narrow so the inside is considered a small home although the outside is misleading.

The back of the house is odd looking, especially up at the top. Windows can be added there, as well as a main level rear exit (if desired).

On the interior, I made a nice large fireplace. I made sure to build brick down into the floor with no wood above or below to cause any fires. I have burnt down an entire mansion before. Because this house is narrow, and then the second mini level is weirdly offset, I built a staircase right in the way on the left side of the house. Yes, right in front of a window. Unless you stack blocks directly where the staircase is, a ladder would not be any more helpful.
Lastly, the mini second story is very narrow, complete with large staircase opening. Plenty of room for chests, a bed, chairs, a tv, chandelier, brewing area, etc.

Clay Exterior Home

I built this home as a tribute to trying to not have boring exteriors. Personally, even though I used to different colors of clay, in the same scheme, it is still pretty boring. This house is tall and wide open L-shaped, with a large second floor, many windows, has some decorative decking, some hedges, and plenty of room of personal touches. I used Smooth Sandstone as the flooring, Clay bricks, Jungle Bricks, Jungle Stairs, and Jungle Wood to pull this together.

City Life

We thought it would be interesting to try to make some of our map look like a city. So we tried to replicate a street with a sidewalk, some benches (think bus stops!), and some street lighting. I even placed some wool on a fence post to replicate where a stop sign could be. We tried wide roads and then narrowed it down to smaller roads.

We also began to fill in the super flat map by growing trees, and grass. I tried to make a small park in the back of the townhomes I recently built. There is an odd water feature, park benches, lamp posts, and of course nature!

Nether World type buildings

Nether World type buildings...

A lot of people think the Nether World is awesome and impressive. Using the nether materials just right, you can build houses that are impressive looking and cool. Hope you like the designs as much as I do! Some of them will not be featured in the nether. I will be creating a page on here specifically for these type of buildings.

Did you know that Nether Rack will burn forever, once it is set on fire?
This is a quick example of a Nether based building/house.
This building consist of Nether Rack, Nether Brick, fire, iron bars, Nether Quartz Ore. There are other materials you can use together that's not listed. When I build others like this, I will list the materials I use.

Building Challenge

Today, I challenged my kids to try to make a structure to be used as a home. They sure were excited to build! Not all materials they chose are functional in survival mode. It will be nice to see the finished projects.

Sonic Statue

I made this Sonic pixel art for my oldest son whom loves Sonic, even though Sonic is older than him!

Creeper floors house

It is hard to vary up the greens with so few color block choices. On the first floor, I made the floor using wool and clay blocks. On the seond floor, I used wool carpet tiles. Maybe sometime I will make a Creeper exterior!

Pokemon character house

This building is ridiculously huge! I made the pixel art on the ground and built around it. I left it open for viewing from the second floor. I added many windows and other sources of lighting.

Batarang house

I created the Batarang house for my daughter. I started out using the pixel art to throw together the floor. From there, I used jungle wood and other materials to make it into a huge building. Since the Batarang is made from Obsidian and Gold blocks, I made an upper lever for her home opening up the floor to view from that level. Because we did not use much glass, we used torches on many many blocks- we have to keep the monsters away! Finally, on the outside she planted her favorite cocoa beans to use for those chocolate chip cookies!

Pixel Art is popular!

If you have a lot of free time, you too can create pixel art. Google pixel pictures or visit Minecraft Building Ideas for a few samples. With time and creativity, you can have some fancy pieces. With even more time and creativity, you can turn the pixel art into other useful things! Here are some of the pixel art I used recently:

Creating the "L" Birch House

I needed to build a new building that is different than the standard square buildings, so I decided to make a small "L" house. Everything always seems to be made with oak, so this time I purposely used birch. I love the light color of the planks. This starter house is small but you can add a basement if you are an item hoarder!
